ولد محمد الرواس في بيروت عام 1951، وتخرج بدرجة البكالوريوس في الرسم من معهد الفنون الجميلة في الجامعة اللبنانية عام 1975 وحصل على منحة للدراسة في الخارج. كان عام تخرج الرواس بمثابة بداية الحرب الأهلية اللبنانية، مما دفع الفنان إلى التوقف عن الرسم ومغادرة بلده إلى الرباط، المغرب حيث بقي لمدة عامين، حيث قام بتدريس الفن واستأنف الرسم في النهاية. عاد إلى بيروت عام 1979 لإقامة أول معرض فردي له، قبل أن ينضم إلى مدرسة سليد للفنون الجميلة في لندن في نفس العام بمنحة دراسية من الجامعة اللبنانية. عند عودته إلى بيروت عام 1981 بدرجة الماجستير في الطباعة، بدأ حياته الأكاديمية في الجامعة اللبنانية و

Born in Beirut in 1951, Mohammad El Rawas graduated with a BFA in painting from the Institute of Fine Art of the Lebanese University in 1975 and was awarded a scholarship to study abroad. The year of El Rawas’ graduation marked the beginning of the Lebanese Civil War, leading the artist to stop painting and to leave his country for Rabat, Morocco where he remained for two years, teaching art and eventually resuming painting. He returned to Beirut in 1979 to hold his first solo show, before joining the Slade School of Fine Art in London in the same year on scholarship from the Lebanese University.
